Simsbury Celebrates 2016 Gingerbread House Competition & Fire Truck Parade Winners!
The Simsbury Celebrates committee is proud to announce the winners of this year’s competition. Youth: 1st place; Hudson Sirios, 2nd place; Josephine Lefranc. The houses are on display in the Free Library, (749 Hopmeadow Street) the gracious yellow building next to Center Cemetery, on Tuesday, November 22 from 10-4pm, Wednesday, November 23, from 3-5pm and during Simsbury Celebrates, Saturday, November 26 from 4-6:30pm. http://www.simsburycelebrates.com.
The winners of our fundraiser Win A Ride In The Simsbury Celebrates Fire Truck Parade are Parade Marshall Kylie Norton and riding with Santa in a Simsbury Fire Department decorated Fire Truck is Donald Kim.
Simsbury Celebrates 2016, a community celebration, is scheduled for Saturday, November 26, 2016. The event starts at 4:30 PM and ends at about 8:30 PM. The event necessitates the closing of Hopmeadow Street, Route 10, between Plank Hill Road and Drake Hill Road. The road will be closed from 4:00 PM until 8:30 PM and traffic will be rerouted to Iron Horse Boulevard.
The following streets and businesses are affected by the road closure:
Simsbury 1820 House
Access to the above streets and businesses must be made via Wilcox Street. Due to the closure of Route 10, Wilcox Street must be accessed from Iron Horse Boulevard.
Heavy traffic volume is anticipated so please plan your travel accordingly. Please visit the event website at www.simsburycelebrates.com for program information.
Please note that we are unable to close both Hopmeadow Street (Route10) and Iron Horse Boulevard at the same time. Please remember to use caution when crossing streets and always use sidewalks and crosswalks for safety.
Local Artist And West Simsbury Resident Supports Simsbury Celebrates!
West Simsbury artist and resident Deborah Leonard is selling her award winning “Simsbury” poster and is giving a percentage of the sales to Simsbury Celebrates. The 18x24 poster printed on extra heavy high gloss paper, depicts all the highlights that make Simsbury a wonderful place to live. Ms. Leonard has painted The Pinchot Sycamore Tree, the Flower Bridge, The Farmington River, Rails to Trails, and Talcott Mountain including the Hueblein Tower and King Philip's cave and several other locations in her poster. The poster sells for $25 + sales tax and a percentage of each sale goes to Simsbury’s only free town wide, welcoming in the holidays event, Simsbury Celebrates! The 2016 Simsbury Celebrates Planning committee would like to thank Ms. Leonard for her generous support.
